Dynamics CRM Online Can Integrate to Microsoft SharePoint 2010

CRM 2011 has a great new feature that allows you to associate SharePoint sites with your accounts, opportunities, and other entities. This way, the documents that you attach to those entities get the benefits of SharePoint version control, meta tags for categorization, and enhanced permissions. Since CRM Online does not include SharePoint and Office 365 does not support the integration, Microsoft sales reps have been using Project Hosts SharePoint sites integrated to CRM Online in order to show these great features. Now you can do it – for free.

What’s the Advantage?

Using CRM Online alone, documents can be attached to CRM entities like accounts, opportunities and other entities. But documents that are attached this way are difficult to manage, with no versioning control and no meta tags for organization or categorization. Also, for things like sales collateral, contracts, or other documents, the people creating and revising the documents may be different from the people using them in CRM.

With SharePoint integration, document creators and revisers (e.g. lawyers, procurement) can do all of their revising directly in SharePoint, using version control, search and meta-tag categorization. They don’t have to go into CRM and try to hunt down the documents that need their attention from attachments inside entities. At the same time, the integration means that CRM users have immediate access to those documents from right within each associated entity.

SharePoint integration has become extremely popular with on-premise and partner-hosted CRM 2011 implementations, but until now it has not been available for CRM Online. Now you can have this great new feature in your CRM Online implementation.
